Kevin Keegan praised his Manchester City heroes after they salvaged a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, and claimed his side "proved" they were as good as Sir Alex Ferguson's team.
An inspired substitution by the former England boss saw Shaun Goater come off the bench with four minutes to go and score with his first touch of the game - after only nine seconds. "We've proved we're as good as them today - and that's pleased me," he said. Keegan felt that was just what his side deserved after battling hard and never giving up after going behind to Ruud van Nistelrooy's opener after 18 minutes, but refused to take any credit for the substitution despite saying a change had to be made. "We had to try something," he added. "We were getting a foothold in the game without threatening enough. "In Ali (Benarbia) we've got invention, Shaun got his 100th goal against United and has now scored again today. Having been here as a kid he'll have enjoyed that. "It's luck but you need it sometimes - especially at places like this. As the game wore on I thought we got more and more into it. We may have sneaked three points at the end." Goater had another goal ruled out shortly after for hand-ball against Niclas Anelka, but Keegan wasn't too disappointed. "Nicolas said it bounced up and hit him," he said. "We had our celebration and thought we'd done the double over them - but we'll be honest and say we're delighted with the point. "We're still building and trying to be where they (United) have been for a long time. You've got to come here with no fear - but I'm delighted for our fans. "We're unbeaten against them this season. I don't know how many clubs will be able to say that at the end of the season."
