I'm sure I'll be criticised for saying this, but I wonder how many more opportunities we'll get to close the gap on Arsenal before we actually start to take them? I suspect there won't be many more, if there are any at all. Many people seem to think that Arsenal will slip up, but I'm not convinced there is any evidence to support this view. Traditionally, teams that have won the Championship have always had one, but only one, 'blip' during the season, and United and Arsenal have already had theirs. Besides, in the past few seasons, Arsenal have always put together a good run at around this time of year.
What all this means is that we had better stop throwing points away. If we don't win the league this year, how many of you could honestly say that we did deserve to win? We've had chance after chance to put Arsenal under pressure, and we haven't taken any of them. Games like today's speak volumes. It's very easy to blame everything from referees to the weather, but ultimately, the players have to look at themselves. This wasn't two points lost, it was two points carelessly thrown away, and the effects of that are more than statistical. We're sending the wrong signals to Arsenal when we can't win a game at home against a team that embarrassed us in November. If we can't be up for this game enough to match City's hunger, drive and aggression, then we don't deserve to win anything. Yes, we should have had a penalty, blah, blah, blah..., but the point is very simple. We make our own luck, both good and bad. These are the games we HAVE to win if we want to be Champions.
