Paul Scholes admits he could be tempted to leave Manchester United - but
only in the unlikely event of being permanently axed from the line-up.
Though Scholes is the quiet man of the Red Devils' dressing room, his
contribution to United's domestic dominance over the last decade has never
been underestimated by the club's worldwide support.
And, while David Beckham's 25m departure for Real Madrid this summer
brought a mixed reception, it is a fair assumption open revolt would break
out should Sir Alex Ferguson ever decide to dispense with Scholes' services.

Happily for both club and player, such a situation is never likely to arise.

Scholes though refuses to take his place for granted and insisted he feels
no more vulnerable now than when he first made his United debut in September
1994.
"You never think about leaving but you always know there is a chance it
might happen," said the England international.
"Circumstances change. You don't want to be hanging about if you are not
playing well, can't get into the team and find yourself as a substitute
every week.
"But at the moment I am happy where I am and in an ideal world I would like
to stay with Manchester United for the rest of my career. The problem is
ideals don't always become reality.
"David leaving hasn't made me feel more vulnerable, it's part of the game.
"Not many players stay with one club throughout their career. It's something
you get used to and we will carry on as normal, just as we have when other
players have gone before."
His 20-goal haul last term represented the most prolific season of his
career and it included the stunning hat-trick against Newcastle at St James'
Park which turned up the power in United's relentless pursuit of the
Premiership title.
"I like to be judged on my goals, I enjoy scoring them and they are the most
important part of the game," said Scholes.
"There will probably be pressure on me to do it again but that doesn't
bother me. It's nice to feel you are making a contribution."
Scholes' appearances on United's US tour so far have been restricted by a
slight groin injury, but he was able to do some light training on Tuesday
and is expected to be in contention for a place in Thursday's sell-out
encounter with Juventus at the Giants Stadium.
