Again, as this story is now being reported in more reputable journals,
it seems that we may be indeed be losing Seba. Im not trying to be a
naysayer or a moaner, but its more than just a bit distrubing that we,
Manchester United, one of the top clubs in the world, are selling off
more than we are buying, from a quality standpoint. Not only that, but
to reiterate a point thats been made well and often, we are getting
screwed in negotiations. Im happy we didnt get Ronaldinho, as he
didnt really seem into playing for the shirt (see Neville, G & N,
Forlan, D). Beckham leaving was sad, but I felt other than set pieces
and corners, he was fairly replaceable. Veron, on the other hand, is a
highly-skilled player, one we seem to have few of. You know, the sorts
of players that have silky smooth skills and can make amazing things
happen. Giggs is one, Kan Kan was one and I felt that out of Becks
shadow, Veron was ready to blossom this year. We have D-D on his way in,
and possibly Kleberson, as well, but am I wrong in believing both of
these players are more in the Butt/Keano mold than a playmaker? I just
dont see a creative force in midfield at this time and wonder what
Fergie has in mind. I know hes been brilliant in the past and I hope he
will turn water into wine yet again, but this Veron sale, if it goes
through, is just a move that doesnt make any sense to me, ESPECIALLY
when Seba is being sold to a domestic rival.

Heres to hoping Im being Chicken Little.

Cheers,

Jeremy

Subject: [Mufc] Veron set to join Chelsea

The transfer of Juan Sebastian Veron to Chelsea looks set to take place
within three days after the player's representatives met officials from
the
Stamford Bridge club in London yesterday to put the finishing touches to
the
deal.

The Argentine's performance for United against Club America on Sunday
might
not be his last for the club because doubts over the fitness of Paul
Scholes
and Roy Keane may force Sir Alex Ferguson to play him against Juventus
here
tomorrow.

Veron, 28, had originally opposed the move but is understood to have
been
persuaded into joining Chelsea after Ferguson made it clear that the
midfielder was no longer part of his long-term plans. The deal could
earn
United around half the 28.1 million they paid to Lazio for the
midfielder
two years ago. Veron is expected to negotiate a salary of around 80,000
a
week.
