FERGUSON INSISTS VERON STAYS . Sir Alex Ferguson is insisting that Juan Sebastian Veron will stay at Manchester United and face Juventus at the Giants Stadium on Thursday. Ferguson claimed not to know about the speculation that a 16 million fee had been agreed with Chelsea for the Argentinian midfielder. In fact Fergie suggested that Veron's agent, Fernando Hidalgo, was acting without authority. He said the player will still be at Old Trafford when United kick off their Premiership campaign against Bolton Wanderers on August 16. "Seba is a terrific player and I want him to stay," said Ferguson. "I don't know anything about the speculation. Agents talk to a lot of people, they have a lot of power and sometimes they can think different things to the player. "But Seba is a mature man. He is very experienced and he knows what he wants. If there was a situation arising I'm sure he would talk to me. He hasn't done so and I'm quite happy about that. "My impression was that he had settled down, everything had gone quiet and there was no problem. Seba is a marvellous player and he is contracted to us. It is going to be difficult for a deal to be done. He will be playing for us." Meanwhile, Hidalgo has confirmed that Chelsea have made an offer for his client, and suggested that Veron would be happy to move to London. Hidalgo said: "Chelsea made an offer very recently to Manchester United for the transfer of Juan Veron. "When the offer was proposed to us we were willing to accept it, as long as the personal terms would be what the player requested. "We have to look at the contract that Chelsea would be willing to offer and also to have a resolution with Manchester United." However, Hidalgo added that Veron would be happy to stay at United. And regarding Ferguson's insistence that Veron would not be leaving, Hidalgo said: "I'm not aware of Ferguson's quotes but obviously Manchester United have the last word. "Both clubs will still have to agree to the transfer - but Veron would be equally happy to remain in Manchester." www.soccerage.com http://www.red11.org/news ------------------------ Yahoo!
