some random thoughts:

Ruud scored 40+ last season, but our top five attacking players scored a
total of 100 between them, if I'm not mistaken. That's phenomenal.

Ruud also tends to score in 2s and 3s, so it is not that we're reliant upon
him scoring in every game, in order to win. Many of our match-winning goals
were scored by other attackers (including Diego!), with Ruud's additional
goals converting 1-0s into 2-0s or 3-0s.

In the past, we've always relied on well-rounded scoring. Now, we still
have well-rounded scoring (many strikers scoring in double figures), PLUS
one guy who scores bags of goals.

What I'm driving at is that we may not be as reliant upon Ruud as we fear.
Even if Ruud had scored a more 'normal' number of goals, I don't think it
would've impacted us all that badly. Whereas most people seem to be of the
view that if Ruud is injured, we're finished.

Our position is, in fact, very different from that of the Scousers, who
basically don't score if Owen doesn't.

Or maybe I'm just being too optimistic - I'm not saying that Ruud isn't
important...just that we probably can survive if he doesn't score as many.

>Talking of goal scorers, who was the last United player besides
our boy Ruud to have topped the league scoring charts. What about
all competitions for a season?

Until the advent of Ruud I feel we were a team that had goal scorers all
over the park - not that we still don't, but you know what I mean
(perhaps).
