I think if you consider Sir Alex comments on Edwards, you see a
divergence between Edwards the chairman of Manchester United football
club, and chief excecutive of Manchester United plc. I'm sure the
demands on the latter are considerable in their own way. If you look
at the Kenyon era from strictly a business sense, you are left with
the fact this club are on a sound financial footing, unlike many
European clubs eg Real Madrid, who face considerable debts. In that
respect, Kenyon has done a good job, commercially speaking. As to his
real allegence to the club, that is another matter altogether it
seems.

Bobby Charlton said at the time of the ill fated Micheal Knighton
affair, this club shoud belong to the people, the supporters, and
said that in regard to the clubs stock exchange flotation. In so
doing, he revealed his own business naivety. The idea of fans owning
the club if they buy enough shares is an over simplification to the
way corperate enterprise works. The reality is Manchester United
will always be the target of a Chelsea like Roman empire, or Micheal
Knighton-esque figure, who may well then view the club "merely" as a
financial asset to exploit.

During the reign of Sir Alex he has gone from dealing with a chairman
of a great club to dealing with the chief executive of a corperate
monster. I only hope whoever runs this club will not lose touch
entirely with it's roots. Without the heratige, history, the
heartbeat of the club, what then would be the difference between
Manchester United and the Chelsea foriegn legion? We may well then
have the money to buy any player in the world, Does anyone want to
see this club as a millionaires plaything?

> to beg them to ensure that when Sir Alex wants to

given

understand went
> on last time.

I have said on a previous post Peter, I consider that imperative. And
that he is allowed to continue in any capacity he wishes after his
managerial retirement. Edwards has flatly rejected that in the past,
refering to what he described as "The Sir Matt Busby syndrome". I
understand what went on before when we tried to replace Matt. But
this club needs people at the highest level who truly understand the
heratige of the club. There is no one I know who understands that
better than Sir Alex.
