Uhmmm John, where did you see Ruud "kicking" Viera??? Were you watching a
different game by any chance cos all I saw was Ruud jumping for the high
ball and falling over Viera. Now I'm not qualified to judge whether Ruud
falling over him should have warranted a booking, but I do know that was
Viera did by lashing out at Ruud was definetly a bookable offence. As in the
Beckham incident in the world cup of '98 when he made contact on Simeone and
thus received an automatic dismissal. In this case, Viera missed and so it
was the INTENT that was punished, hence a second yellow and the dismissal.

Ruud got a deserved yellow for kicking Vieira but I don't really see what he
did wrong when Vieira kicked out. He got out of the way, asked the referee
"what the hell is going on here?" and Vieira got the road.
