It's been a long time since I used COM and MTS, and the
following is as per memory. Verify it's correctness before using
it.
Assuming machine A has the actual COM dll and machine B is
the ASP web-server, and you want to be able to access the COM
dll in A, from B. First of all, run the MTS MMC on machine
B and specify the remote server (in this case specify the server
name or IP of machine A). You will see a list of all the dlls
available on machine A. Select the required component and
register it, as you would a normal (local) dll for COM.
This will create a DCOM proxy for the A's dll in machine B.
After this, on machine B run DCOMCNFG. It will show you a list
of all dlls registered for COM. Select the required dll (the
DCOm proxy will appear exactly as any normal COM dll) to
specify where the newly registered dll must be activated - in
server (machine A) or in client (machine B).
To use the DCOM proxy dll in machine B, all the ASP pages
must instantiate the dll by using MTXAS.GetObjectContext(). This
will return an ObjectContext object.
Call ObjectContextObject.CreateInstance(<name, clsid or
guid of the dll>) instead of Server.CreateObject().
Hope this
helps...
