It would surprise me too if pcsc-lite is causing the problem. Anyway you
should be able to rule that option out by using the test program that comes
with the Towitoko driver. Since it directly addresses the ct-api you can test
your drive without using the pcsc bridge.

No, I did not.

Correct.
I found out that these files were owned by root and not read/writeable by
others. I introduced a new group called 'usb' and changed the permissions on
/dev/usb/ttyUSB0 to owner=root, group=usb and added rw-permission for the
group. Of course I added the appropriate users to this 'usb' group.
After a reboot of the system this worked fine.

These are the configure options I used:
./configure --enable-debug=4 --enable-ISO-t0 --enable-devpcsc --enable-usb
--with-pcsc-lite-dir=/usr/local/pcsc --enable-usb-bundle
And I must admit that I ran this on a machine that already had a working
serial installation of ocf/pcsc-lite/towitoko-2.0.7 on it. No idea whether this was
crucial or not.
