/etc/reader.conf is to be used with _serial_ readers _only_. USB readers do not need this file and pcscd looks for drivers bundles (in /usr/local/pcsc/drivers by default). So if you don't have a serial reader the /etc/reader.conf file can be an empty file or even non existent. I added a small note in the sample PCSC/etc/reader.conf.in file distributed with pcsc-lite.
