I built a version of muscle framework that links to microsoft's PC/SC. Happy to send the dll built for win32. It required a fair amount of source hacking - that we have no real need to integrate into the muscle source. Should work with any reader/card that windows recognizes.

I am very interested in it. Can you send the dlls to me? Does the code include the pkcs11 lib?
I understand that it is quite difficult to maintain a project that is windows / unix cross plattform but I think it is very well worth the effort.
The market share of windows is still so high that an open source project can only be really successfull if it is cross plattform.
See openoffice, apache, mozilla.
In my opinion the key to success for any larger open source project is to let people use it on windows and when they got accustomed to using mostly cross plattform software the switch to linux is very easy.
Imagine a midsize enterprise that wants to use muscle for login and mail security. They will have windows and linux users. If they only get a linux version of a project it is out of question.
Perhaps you could offer the dll for public download. If you have no problem with it you could offer your sources also with some short description what you did. Perhaps someone is willing to maintain a fork. He could then take the current muscle version from time to time and release windows binaries based on it.
I could help by writing a card managing app like xcard on java.
