At first I'm intrested if anybody got the driver to work.
I have a Omnikey Cardman 4000 too. I used the pcsc driver from the omnikey website. I had some problems too accessing a cryptoflex 32k smartcard. Several tools i tried to use says that the card is unresponsive etc.
When using libpcsclite0 (pcsc-lite-1.2.0) i had no problems to access my card using a small selfwritten test program. As far as i understand Ludovic Rousseau, there seems to be a problem with the protocol negotation in pcsc-lite-1.2.9. To quote from a recent mail of him:
pcsc-lite 1.2.9 performs a PTS negiciation if the card supports it.
This is done by using the IFDHSetProtocolParameters() [1] function from the driver. This function was not used by pcsc-lite 1.2.0 in general case so may be buggy with some drivers (because not tested).
