Yesterday I read the specifications about the classes exported by USB devices and I figured out that CCID is one of them. So, as you said, it may not be avaiable for some readers.
Just to finish this thread: do you people older in this list think it is possible (and viable) to create a generic USB reader driver, independent of CCID?
