I am attempting to get an activcard smart card reader to work under Linux Fedora Core 5. I have been told that the card I have has had a new
firmware "flashed". When I run the pcscd program, I get:

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] reader.conf.d]# pcscd -f -d

readerfactory.c:251:RFAddReader() Generic CCID Reader (00000000000000) init failed.

The reader seems to have the following information:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] reader.conf.d]# /home/gsh/src/ccid-1.0.1/src/parse
Trying to open USB bus/device: 004/004
 idVendor: 0x04E6
  iManufacturer: SCM Microsystems Inc.
 idProduct: 0xE001
  iProduct: SCRx31 USB Smart Card Reader
 bcdDevice: 5.18 (firmware release?)
<SNIP>

I have had some problems with mine (which happens to be a flashed to 5.18) where I had to physically unplug and replug the card reader between runs of pcscd. Hard Reset required????

All,

I've had similar experiences where stopping PCSCD and immediately restarting it produced this failure mode. Usually waiting longer between restarts or simply trying again fixed it for me.
