I am in fact using ccid-1.0.1-1. It seems that the driver does not
work on my x86_64 machine, but mostly seems to work with my i686
machine. At least I can get the muscletools library to work with
Firefox so I can view secure web sites with my CAC card.
I've been brave enough to try the MusclePam package, but no luck so
far. The call to pcsc_init in pam_sm_authenticate returns
MSC_INTERNAL_ERROR. If I run muscletest on the card, I get:
Instead of libmusclepkcs11 and MusclePam, you might find CoolKey and
pam_pkcs11 faster to get working.

libmusclepkcs11 needs a bunch of patches (most of which have been put on this
list in the last month) to get it working mostly correctly with the cac. with
the above pcsc-lite and ccid libcoolkeypk11 worked with no patches to it. The
only mod we made to pam_pkcs11 was changing the word "Password" in the prompt
to "PIN".
Note on CoolKey, the last change in my version was timestamped 2006-07-13
17:32 CDT
with the comment:

fix pthread issue.
looks like you could checkout with the tag COOLKEY_1_0_1 and get it.
I know there have been a couple of cac updates to coolkey since I got my copy,
but I know this one works.
