For those of you on the MUSCLE list who are not already aware of it,
Sun has an officially supported port of PC/SC-lite for the Solaris and
thin client Sun Ray platforms, and is available for download from
http://sun.com (search for 'pcsclite' in the search dialog).
The latest update release is 1.2 and will be posted to Sun's
download page very soon. (Sun's version numbers for PC/SC-lite
have no relationship to the Open Source version numbers).
The Sun port of PC/SC-lite has been adapted to make it more scalable,
such that it can automatically service readers on a large number of
stations, where each reader is associated with an X-windows display.
For a single user workstation, the X display of the console is
associated with
readers on the system USB bus on a Solaris system. When Sun Ray
server software is installed to support Sun Ray thin client platform, a
different IFD handler is used to access the Sun Ray client units'
built-in reader, where each Sun Ray unit is associated with a unique
X Display number.
Sun's port is based on PC/SC-lite 1.3.x. Sun's implementation is
substantially
different from the Open Source code, however from the standpoint of the
PC/SC-lite API itself, they are functionally virtually identical. Sun
has not maintained
the code in parallel, but has fixed bugs discovered on an as-needed
basis
to make it work with supported smart cards and software (including
MiddleWare).
The Release Notes one Sun's PC/SC-lite download page provide the
information necessary to install PC/SC-lite on Solaris and to begin
using it.
