What is going on ?

That's majority of todays open (and closed) source software. Only
small percentage is running on open source HW.

But now, really, what is going on? I am interested if you have found
an answer to your problem. This might help other who stumble upon this
list.

Get yourself a "Smart Card Handbook" and official standard if you can.
Get also SC tutorial from David Everett.

How do you know this ? Maybe it comes, but you do not see it.

Partially answers the question above...

They probably use.

Take a look at this SC controller documentation:

http://infocenter.arm.com/help/index.jsp?topic=/com.arm.doc.ddi0228a/index.html

Do not know if that could help you a lot, but could give you some
ideas how communication works.

Not aware of this. Did you look at Open Cores ? Maybe post a question
to their forum...
