As part of the ongoing international campaign against global poverty a community event has been arranged to gather the people to stand up against poverty and show solidarity with the rest of the world.

These groups have formed country-based coalitions to put pressure on world leaders and decision makers. We want to pressure governments to :- - Eradicate poverty and dramatically lessen inequality - Public accountability, just governance and the fulfilment of human rights - Trade justice - A major increase in the quantity and quality of aid and financing for development - Debt cancellation *Some Other Events happening around the world* *In Kenya*, Jukwaa la Kupinga Umaskini Kenya (Citizens' Platform Against Poverty) is organising four rallies around the country on World Poverty Day for 60,000 people. *In Malawi*, they are expecting three million people to Stand Up Against Poverty on Sunday 15 October *Canada *will be doing a media launch with celebrity endorsers on 15 September and then promoting the Stand Up World Record Attempt on 15-16 October. There will also be demonstrations and events at constituency offices of Members of Parliament in many local communities. *In Finland*, the Helsinki International Film Festival, which runs through September, will feature a re-edited GCAP Click Advert and white bands and flyers will be distributed to the press. *In Georgia*, Momavali Sigaribis Gareshe (Future Without Poverty) is organising Stand Up Against Poverty events in four major cities for around 1,000 citizens. *In Bangladesh*, there will be a Stand Up Against Poverty Human Chain all over the country on 15 October and a Big Hearing on 17 October to highlight urban poverty, with slum dwellers, local government representatives and politicians. *Sri Lanka* is planning a 100km "Bicycle Demonstration" with 1,000 cyclists and GCAP Sri Lanka are expecting 1 million people to Stand Up Against Poverty on 15 October. *India:* A stand up concert is planned in Jaipur on 15 October and a People's Summit on 16 October.
