You may also want to try
mutt -F /dev/null
and then check the sendmail setting (should be default) with
:set sendmail
and then try to reproduce your bug with
:set sendmail="/foo/bar -x"
Checking the setting in (interactively) running mutt is also a way to
ensure that your configuration is being taken into consideration.
