Hi, I’ve been testing the socket timeout patch which Kevin sent to the list some months ago. In fact it is just a part of my main mutt setup now on several machines.
I am happy with it because it solves the problem which was occurring before (hanging). But there are a few things still: - I find myself typing c= many times a day, because the mailbox closes often, also when the 30 seconds have definitely not been reached. One fairly reproducible way to make it close is to resize the terminal window while the mailbox is opening! So, something weird is happening there. - Sometimes the mailbox closes while you’re on the email-composition screen or while writing the email, so that after you send it you are sent back to a closed mailbox with a message ‘mailbox closed’. I can live with it, but I think it will confuse many users, who will wonder if their message was actually sent. - I find the message which is displayed in the status bar a bit too system-like – I believe it’s sending the system error message straight through to the user. Those are my comments for now! Grts., Allen
