I would tag them and do it that way. You want to T. # tag-pattern . (all) ;Wn # tag-prefix clear-flag new and perhaps ;Wo # tag-prefix clear-flag old as well. Then don't forget to ;t # tag-prefix tag (which untags) to clear things.
