Agreed.  I didn't want to get too confusing :-)

While that will work if they're already collapsed, it will cause problems
if they aren't.  Worse yet, if you have some collapsed and some expanded
threads you can't get back to that state.  Unfortunately I don't know
of a truly portable way to solve this, but if you can assume threaded
sorting, what works for me is a quick

  ou    # s'o'rt unsorted
  T.    # tag 'em all
  ;WN   # tag-prefix clear-flag new
  ;t    # tag-prefix tag
  ot    # s'o'rt threaded

to ensure that every message can get tagged.  Meanwhile, you also have to
hope that you didn't have any tagged for later attention, since by the
end of this they won't be.  But one can only set so many preconditions
and still have things be useful ;-)
