It was unclear from your message exactly where the problem lies.  Are
you seeing the address list truncated in the compose menu?  I do see
that Mutt truncates the *display* of the address list at 255 chars, but
the actual list may be longer.  I'm guessing not many people use
terminals that wide, which is why nobody has mentioned this before.

As an aside, you can use 'set edit_headers' and Mutt will include the
full message header in your editor.  I find it much easier to do edits
on the address list this way.

Mutt knows how wide your terminal is so it could theoretically make
enough space.  Right now the string used to display the list is fixed
at 256 chars long.
