yes, this is also my understanding. So, I would like to fill a bug with
this, but am quite newby and I don't know how to proceed. Some
questions:

- is my behaviour reproducible ? Could any of you manually change the
  mime type of, say, some utf-8 xml doc with ctrl-e and set it to
  'text/xml; charset=us-ascii; name="doc.xml"', try to save it and see
  what it happens ?

 - should I write a message to mutt-devel instead of mutt-users ?
