Unfortunately, this is a common result from just blindly copying snippets of others' mutt configuration without understanding what they do. I did this a lot when I first started using mutt -- and i'm not saying you are not experienced with mutt, or anything like that -- and I did encounter problems like you have. But really they weren't problems, just a lack of understanding on my part because I hadn't read the manual and man pages to fully understand what these settings did/do. I still do take inspration from looking at muttrc examples but always have to modify them for my own environment. Sorry, that will probably read as though i'm lecturing you, which i'm not. Just trying to say check up on settings from the documentation before adding them in. Patrick was always one to remind me of doing this when I posted problems in the past, and quite rightly so ;-)
