Sorry Vic. I must have lost that email. I sorted back through and found a
reference to the same problem but didn't find your reply. Your response to
the problem with standard-example is probably in that same email. I'm still
unable to make standard-example work without error. It is looking for
i18n.jar and a classes directory under jrockitvm. I appreciate your
patience in helping me get up to date.

I probably deleted one of your reply's because I got tired of reading all
the cry baby whiners talk about how the list had changed.
Thanks,

Dennis Stevens

Tim,

I think the official position is "in the long run" this will be a great
list. In the "short run" the list originator has clearly implied "put-up
or shut-up". IMO opinion you're looking for visionary leadership in the
wrong place.

I've found over time that you cannot ever influence people's behavior on a
public list, unless the list is moderated or the list has established a
set of rules beforehand. The POPULAR opinion is to leave this list for
"best practices" alone and start another one for "tech support for class
training".

And its not okay to say put up with the noise as you stated in the
following message.

On Wednesday at 9:09pm, VC=>Vic Cekvenich <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

So, Vic you're more than welcome to un-subscribe me (my bad, I forgot,
you're as busy as the rest of us), since I'm "complaining" but I consider
this a classic case of "bait and switch". You never established any common
set of ground rules beforehand, yet you've changed the list policy to also
include 5.2Meg attachments and tech support for your classes. You should
check your list software - if it doesn't have the capability to limit
message size and/or attachments, I would dump it and hire another
sysadmin. Unless its yourself, then you're stuck.

So unless you wanna keep hearing from "complainers" I would suggest taking
the class traffic off-line. **Some of those introductory message -- Hi, my
name is Rodney -- remind me of watching a TV show about an AA meeting.
"Hi, my name is Bob, I am a recovering alcoholic"... Good stuff for comic
value...

Vic/fellow-students:

I have been trying to run the apps (step 1 in lab1) and have been
running into problems. First I could not seem to even deploy
struts-menu.war (resin seemed to go into an infinte loop). I removed the
load-on-startup param in web.xml and then at least got resin to behave
(sort of). I've tried several things (like removing more parts of the
web.xml) but have finally hit a 500 Servlet error:
"javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: The menu repository could not be found.

 at
com.fgm.web.menu.displayer.taglib.UseMenuDisplayerTag.doStartTag()I(Unknown
Source)
etc.."
So I've given up on this app.

As for the other apps, deploying is not a problem but I don't think they
are running properly. For example, I can bring up the
"Standard-examples" pages ok and can view the "Source of jsp" pages
fine, but trying to *run* them (clicking on the cogs-icon) return a
pageful of nasty errors. (I can elaborate if necessary.)

Has anybody successfully solved these problems..?

Thanks,
Geeta

Maybe I'm missing something but on the bottom of every single e-mail I
get from this list it has on it the link:

http://www.basebeans.net:8080/mailman/listinfo/mvc-programmers

I haven't tried to unsubscribe using it but I assume it works like
almost EVERY OTHER STINKIN' list. You people that are e-mailing the
list with:

"Man this list is horrible, take me off it" make me wonder if you belong
on ANY mailing list on the internet. The SAME place you signed up for
the list you can remove yourself from it. Just use the link you see at
the bottom of this e-mail.

Really!!! Especially since it's supposed to be a fairly technical list.
Do these people have the slightest chance of figuring out Struts, MVC or
any programming topic when they can't click a link to unsubscribe
themselves?

I've written an email like the one Rick wrote five times in the last few
days and then decided not to send because I don't think the list needs
to be junked up with messages ABOUT these idiots, but enough is enough.
I'm not thrilled with all the messages only applicable to the class,
either, but if you don't like it, tell the administrator and/or quit the
list. If you can't figure out how to quit the list, ask a friend for
help or box up your computer and give it away.

Subject: [MVC-Programmers] Resin Configuration

I just received Lab 0 and I am on my last leg to finish it.

Subject: [MVC-Programmers] Homework Lab 0

Hello there. I just received Lab 0 and I am on my last leg to finish it.

I hope I am getting all the jasic set up right well. I know this is not
quite true though.

Anyhow first thing first.

This is Question 1 of Lab 0. Introduce myself.

Name: Adrian Cho
Organization: Vidicept Limited (I also work in projects in other companies.
I am having some difficulty in another email box. Hence I am now using one
from cggroup.com

Role: Software developer

6 years of Java
2 years of Web development (front-end)

I have done a lot of Java work on the server back end. I came up with a few
ideas of MVC as well. By and large, I taught myself over the last few years
by reading up material from the internet. Hence I would like a more
"structured" class to re-learn the material.

Question f> I practices Aikido. It is a martial art, A bit of Self-defense
and a bit of dancing.

Question g: I don't understand the question. What does it mean???

OK, back to the Lab 0

I am having difficulty to understand the meaning of the English sentence in
Step 9. Would appreciate if anyone may help.

I know where the configuration I read the URL's

http://www.caucho.com/resin/ref/basic-config.xtp
http://www.caucho.com/resin/java_tut/conf-basic.xtp

Hope you agree with me that I am struggling, having read the urls and done
some Google search.

Second problem

            seems to be a
            problem with
            my Resin
            installation,
            which is an
            out-of-the-box
            installation
            from jasic.

Subject: [MVC-Programmers] Lab 0 - Step 11

OK, this is for the Step 11 of Lab 0.

I must admit I am still disoriented about references to "Mail List" and
"Mail Group" in Lab 0.

Please let me know if I have posted the message to the wrong place and what
the correct mail list should be.

For the sake of Question 11, I am now emailing to "MVC Group" (is it this
mail list??) to say

I did the exercises (with limited success)

Step 9 and Step 10 are a little beyond me.

I double checked my machine configuration and there is no conflict with the
port numbers for Resin to us.

OK I try to start resin (Step 10) and got error messages below

Otherwise, I am OK. I can see my html files (Step 7) thru apache, tomcat,
Weblogic. Unfortunately, they are not quite the "servlet containers" for
the lab exercises. Hence, I still need to get Resin up and running.

If any one has any suggestion about Resin set up from Jasic installation,
please let me know.

and of course I have done some Google search and I am trying to understand
the English as in URL

http://www.caucho.com/resin/java_tut/index.xtp
http://www.caucho.com/resin/java_tut/conf-basic.xtp
http://www.caucho.com/resin/ref/basic-config.xtp

etc.

So some simple plain English in the email would be extremely helpful.

<web-app id='/' app-dir ='../webapps/webCMS' >

in the correct place (just before "</web-app>" towards the end will be ok.)

Geeta
