I worked about 6 hours on the mail, and fixed a few things (and had to re-fix something that used to work, plus I broke another thing).
It should be better, but I won't be able to work on it for a bit.
There were a few touch ups, but main thing is that instead of J2EE exceptions, I how save and display the error in a Struts message class.
