Glad it's working for you, but I'm surprised that you're having trouble with stuttering given the spec of your machine - a Duron 2400 is what, about 1.6Ghz?. I'm using an Athlon XP 2400+ box (2Ghz) as my VLC machine and it can happily do DVD quality with a bitrate of 8192 (you can override the preset video/audio bitrates too in that menu or with the --vlc-vb option). That machine has 768MB RAM, plays movies from a remote NAS device, runs Debian Unstable and is also my OpenVPN, SSH, Apache, BIND, DHCP, MySQL and Slimserver box!
