Hi Gary... Again, I'm going to copy the list on this as it may be of some interest to everyone... (or very interesting to someone ;-) )

I figure that if (or when) I decide I want HD in > the bedroom, I'll get a different client (or build another front end). Right now, the most prevalent HD thin client (and possibly best?) alternatives (for MythTV) are UPNP clients that are based on Sigma Design hardware and Syabas uClinux software. I say prevalent because if you crack the case on most networked DVDs and HD clients you will find this combination. We were starting to track them here: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/UPnPClientInfo While MythTV UPNP works it doesnt' allow the control of a real front end. The way I see it, mvpmc fits between a real MythTV front end and UPNP clients. What would really be interesting is if we could port the mvpmc project to one of these players. You would think it would be easy as SDKs are available for this platform. However, judging from numerous threads, (a good one to look at is over at sageTV: http://forums.freytechnologies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18278&page=2 ...it's technical & legal and includes a blow by blow conversation with the d-link legal department.) the "special source code" is missing. Which is too bad. More interesting are the attempts to port a real MythTV front end to an appleTV box. But I don't think this has happened yet. Probably due to the size and complexity of MythTV. Hummm, I wonder if they have thought about starting smaller - i.e. port mvpmc instead! Yea, it already has a host build path. Why didn't I think of this before....
