Correct. But the OP stated he might "bastardise mvprelay to be selective about where it looks for the file or to modify the filename on the fly" and I was suggesting that altering mvpboot (perlboot) might be an easier way to go about that. (Technically, mvpboot/mvprelay has no say over the file name, it only can specify the TFTP server IP and port, but same end-result.) I can't comment on "setting the preferred server" as I don't understand the mechanism by which that works.
