OK, so then it might be an issue with your MythTV recording setup, which 
may be the result of MythTV configuration or your video capture hardware 
(and/or soundcard),

There are a few ways to test this:

Play back the MythTV content using hardware other than the MVP, such as 
the MythTV Front-end software running on a PC. Compare the audio levels 
produced from MythTV playback with audio levels produced by playing back 
third-party recorded content, such as videos downloaded from the net.

Obtain a sample .nuv file recorded on someone else's MythTV setup and 
import it into your MythTV back-end and see how it plays on the MVP 
compared to the videos you've recorded.

Configure the file browser in mvpmc and play back an MPEG2 video 
obtained from a third party. (Probably the easiest option to try.)
