I have the same problem on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS.
I already installed the missing fonts (after installing mwlib &
mwlib.rl).
Example "ttf-farsiweb" fonts folder:
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-farsiweb# l
...
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 48827 2004-02-18 04:38 homa.ttf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 68448 2004-02-18 04:38 nazlib.ttf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 55941 2004-02-18 04:38 nazli.ttf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 86479 2004-02-18 04:39 titr.ttf
/etc/fonts/fonts.conf looks good to me - or has it to be modified?:
