I would definitely vote for something that allowed me to specify in absolute
terms the amount of effort I reckon is involved in a task (in hours or
days).  

Note: in my terminology:  effort is the actual time I spend working on
something;   elapsed time is the difference between the end date/time and
the start date/time for the task.   Effort is easier to estimate - how long
something actually takes depends crucially on the amount of time that one
can spend working on it.
