as an answer to the above, yes i did, all future items were in the to
do list.

The advanced rules i turned on were

(DueDate Time on or before Today) OR
(DueDate Time does not exist)

Also, my start dates are being entered because i use rapid task entry
& quite often add a due date, maybe when using rapid task entry only
the due date should be checked?
although i suspect a better option, would be an user option in
settings, "Use Start Dates" with a check box.
[maybe in a future release]

Extra wishs / minor enhancements for future versions
In the "Select Task" window, F6 / F7 to work to collapse and expand
the menu, will be way better for shifting items around.
add just a hyper link to an existing task in the notes area to the
relevant outlook item, rather than the whole email, notes & all
When using rapid task entry to enter one item and you enter notes, the
item line is repeated in notes [does not need to be]
