Hi Mike I wouldn't try keeping both versions open - I did this (accidentally) when I first set it up (MLO was open in the tray of my work laptop) while I opened the file on my netbook. I ended up with two versions of the file in Dropbox (one associated with each machine)...as I was just setting it up it didn't matter...but if I was working on it for real it could mess things up.
