F9 initiates sync to a remote site.  I would consider running local
copies and leaving the USB stick behind.  Your USB stick WILL stop
working over time.  It is inevitable that something will happen to
it.  If it's not critical data this is OK but since it is, you need to
sync the .mlo file to an FTP site or run a utility to backs up your
thumb drive every time you plug it in.  That said, you should be able
to find FTP space for a small file like .mlo for free.  There are tons
of services providing free ftp space.  This way you can ditch your USB
stick for this process, simply click F9 whenever you start MLO and you
are done.
