+1 for both suggestions. On the latter suggestion, could we just not make F6 do what you suggest: namely collapse everything except the currently selected branch (perhaps a configurable option). If you wanted to collapse everything, you could just hit home first.
Note: just to be specific, if you have a task selected, that branch should be left open down to that task. Items below that task would be collapsed and all other branches.
