Setting a task as a Weekly Goal is not the same as expecting it to be
completed sometime in the current week. There is no direct correlation
between dates and goals. I do not date my tasks unless they truly are
due on a specific date, so most of my Weekly Goals do not have dates.
Conversely, if a task has a due date within the next week, that
doesn't necessarily make it one of my Weekly Goals.

I can think of two immediate advantages of making a task a Weekly
Goal. First, those tasks will be organized under Weekly Goals in the
Outline view: Goals. Second, those tasks will get a power boost and
will show up near the top of your To-Do view. For me, this is
desirable as I want the tasks designated as Weekly Goals to rise to
the top of my To-Do list. If you don't like this effect, it sounds
like you would be better served by not using the Weekly Goal
parameter, and simply use Due Dates and create your own custom Weekly
Goal view by using Due Dates instead.
