This problem was happenning every time I synched Windows with the cloud - irrespective of whether I also synched with iphone.. I created a new MLO file, cloud sync and iphone file to test this but it actually worked fine, so I exported my tasks from the problematic file and re-imported them into a new MLO file, which now works fine. So problem solved. If you want though - I'm happy to empty the old file and send it through (give me the reevant email address if you want me to do this). It was acually a very, very old MLO file.
