Hi. I'm having a little trouble following what you are asking for here. MLO currently shows a completion bar next to each project showing percentage completion, based on the task effort for each of the tasks in the project. Could you please explain the difference between the existing completion bar, versus the project level percentage completion indicator you are requesting?
There are several mentions in this thread of the need to show percentage completion for an individual task within a project. I'm not an expert in GTD but if I recall correctly, an individual task in GTD is something you can get done all at once; if a task is going to span multiple days then it needs to be broken down into achievable subtasks. Once that's done, percent completion of the original task can be determined by the number of subtasks completed. The point of this is that if you need to spend time managing partial completion statuses of individual subtasks, you are at risk of spending too much time thinking about and managing tasks instead of completing tasks. I recognize that MLO supports many methodologies other than GTD, and if enough people want this, it should be implemented. I raise the issue in order to explain to Project Manager types why some of us might not be enthusiastic about the opportunity to spend more time managing subtask status. -Dwight From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of DDM Sent: Sunday, July 08, 2012 12:07 PM To: [email protected] Cc: MyLifeOrganized Subject: [MLO] Re: Suggestions, Suggestions... MUST DOs really. Insofar as a task-based percentage of completion, I could not agree more. This would make MLO a real player in the buisines of Project Management. Don't get me wrong, MLO IS a great organizer. But, as a Project Manager, I need to be able to regularly and quickly update percentages of completion for individual components of a project. Knowing the status of any given task is not enough. Thank you. Unfortunately, that also relates to MLO. Don't take it the wrong way as it has the potential to become one with a couple of modifications made. Here's the list of some crucial mods that i can think of right now: 1. Beside every subtask in ToDo tab needs to be an overall completion indicator (percentage-wise) for the project that subtask relates to. In Outline tab you need the same thing done except only next to project names(root tasks). This also means we need a couple of settings for visual presentation. The above contributes to seeing the big picture MUCH easier and acts as a motivational factor to get this done. 2. Fully functional Today plugin. 3. EASY "add to ToDo" / "hide from ToDo" button or context menu option. 4. Links to Documents/Files related to your projects or specific subtasks This is not all, but it's very close to bringing MLO into leadership BIG TIME. With your great head, Andrey, I'm sure you can implement this in a week or two. Looking forward to seeing the FIRST truly worthy PPC Project Management app. All The Best, Paringas -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MyLifeOrganized" group.
