I myself append the date to everything (files, bookmarks, views,etc.)
E.g. 1303 for March. Next month I either upgrade the date to 13Q1 or
else delete it entirely. I do this precisely to avoid the problem your
describe. The full upgrade naming is as follows:
MY view 1303 becomes
MY view 13Q2 in April
My view 13H2 in July
My view 14 in Jan 2014
And if I don't use them they get deleted rather than renamed.
