I'm jumping in late. What did you end up deciding to do? I have a couple of comments. You are asking for someone to explain the workflow, and you might not realize that each user will have a different workflow. The key is to design a system such that the workflow is its most effortless to you. You may have to be creative. I would play around with it until you have something you like, and then you can create views on the desktop temporarily to help you change all of your tasks If needed. For example, when I switched from flags to goals, because the portable versions don't yet implement flags, I first created a view of all tasks by goal, to make sure I was using goal according to my new system, and then created a view showing me all tasks by flag that did not have a goal (even though usually I would only look at the active ones), so that I could process through these tasks when I had time and didn't have to do all of them at once.
second, I suspect part of your frustration is that when you enter the tasks on a mobile platform, they are difficult to process on that platform. My suggestion would be to have your use model include processing a bunch of tasks once you get back to your desktop if that is easier. If you are on the road, you can do it manually from the mobile platform, but for most efficiency you might regularly just wait until you get back to your desktop. whatever system you decide on, you can create a view and a tab on the desktop that shows your unprocessed tasks. if you use contexts as Dwight suggested, one possibility is to type @context into the task title on the mobile device. You might even be able to get voice recognition to understand and type your contexts. then, once you are on the desktop, you can go through your inbox or a special view of unprocessed tasks, and on each one, hit alt-enter. This will "process" the task and change the @context text to a regular context. then, you can also select multiple tasks and click control-M to move them into the appropriate folder. As one last possibility, I am available for hourly consulting if you would like help brainstorming. If so contact me off list at lstroyan at Gmail dot com.
