I'm pretty sure that reminders ignore context and active status. I've had
tasks that have "hide-in-to do" set, and the reminders still pop up. I
can't think of a way to have reminders off for certain parts of the tree,
but it seems like a very reasonable feature to request. If no one else
comes up with an answer, I suggest posting it to uservoice.
