Hello, I keep all my notes about the progress on a task in the Notes field of that task. You're right, it would be way too messy to put all that information in the task Description - best option is to keep the Description to a brief phrase / instruction (eg "fetch children from school", or "send report to boss"). By the way: did you know that you can use shortcuts ctrl-D, ctrl-T and F4 to insert date and/or time and time-stamp your entries in the task Notes?
% completion only works for projects, but you can adjust it manually if that project has no sub-tasks.
