Hello Jon, When you come back and see this, in a year, I'd recommend that you give it another go. This Google group isn't *the only *support, although it's a pretty friendly forum and we're happy to help out. There is a support email address, as well, and I've always found Alyona and Andrey responsive, for when I had a problem that the forum couldn't solve.
Regarding synch, you didn't give many details of what you were trying. You can't do WiFi synch between two iOS devices - that only works between iOS and a Windows PC. Best solution is cloud synch (which uses Amazon web services, so it supposed to be pretty secure storage, but doesn't have encryption for transfer of data to the servers - just be aware of that). For this you have to pay a nominal monthly fee. I haven't tried cloud synch yet, so can't help you with setting it up, but the support email address or other users on the forum should be able to help you.
