I have todoist installed on my wearOS and it works great. I actually don't bring my phone with me everywhere I go. If I go out running, or just to the store, I leave my phone at home. todoist works great. Just hate having to move things from MLO to todist all the time.
I just bring up the to-do list I want, and check things off right in the watch as I go. Can even add things to my to-do. The samsung smart watch actually has a nice size screen. Never had a problem like you described. A lot of others want this to be supported. I'll be honest, I do find myself using other to-do apps that support the watch more and more, and use MLO less and less. I do prefer MLO but it's not keeping up with the times.
