Details:

I think MyPaint should save flat PNG by default.

OpenRaster is an advanced feature, and as such should be hidden away. I have
noticed that some users basically failed to figure out how to save the image
in a "normal" format.

Some just don't care (or don't know) about saving the strokemap or
transparency and don't use layers. ORA support for file browsers is not yet
widely installed or even impossible on some platforms.

It should be possible to change the prefered file format to ORA in the
preferences or directly in the save dialog. Maybe there could be a one-time
warning the first time the user tries to save a layered image as PNG,
explaining the advantages.
