Follow-up Comment #6, bug #15239 (project mypaint):
ok, i think i can explain the issue now:
i had mypaint 0.7.1 installed and used a second screen for the brushes
palette. i haven't had mypaint started for a while so i forgot about having
the brushes on the second screen when i last closed mypaint.
a few days ago i uninstalled 0.7.1 and installed 0.8 without removing the
.mypaint folder in my home directory. so i think it used the old settings
from mypaint 0.7.1 (which is a nice feature)
and now that i haven't got the second monitor hooked up, i didn't see the
palette anymore... so no bug of mypaint, only stupidity on my part!
