Nice spot. Eraser mode works in the strange way it does in order to keep the
settings dialog up to date when the user toggles eraser mode on and off.
I've pushed your suggested fix in
http://gitorious.org/mypaint/mypaint/commit/308570f9573c065b3bff43bad92e32cf769c8d28
- can you test that it works for non-eraser brushes now?
